The content of the course is articulated in four main themes which view the European reality from the view points of European studies, political science, international relations, culture, history and philosophy. Within these themes special lectures will tackle issues of political leadership, ideology and practice, policies, security issues, relations withtheEU’s vicinity as well as with more distant actors. Questions of values, of identity and civilization, of the origin of European Integration, be adressed in the secondhalfof the course. A special session will target the english-writing skills of participating students.
Τα μαθήματα “Social Policy” και “Topics on European Studies” προσφέρονται από κοινού και στα δυο Τμήματα της Σχολής (ΠΕΔΙΣ και ΚκΕΠ) μόνο αν υπάρχουν φοιτητές/τριες Erasmus στο τρέχον εξάμηνο. Εφόσον προσφερθούν, μπορούν να τα επιλέξουν και οι φοιτητές/τριες των δύο Τμημάτων ΠΕΔΙΣ και ΚκΕΠ.
The main objective of the course is to combine contributions from various disciplines to a critical approach of the European idea and reality. Drawing from the fields of European studies, political science, international relations, history, cultural studies, law, philosophy, its aim is to provide a deeper comprehension of the European heritage and the perspectives of European integration.
By the end of the course, students are expected to have deepened their understanding of the European Idea, the dynamics of European integration, the institutions and policies of the European Union and its relations with the rest of the world as well as the complexity of the European identity.

English-writing skills improvement (Dr Maria Rontou) |
The main learning resources of the course will draw on the live lectures given for each subject matter and also on a special lecture destined to the improvement of the students’writing capacity in English.This lecture will comment on submitted essays and will identify and correct common writing errors.
There will be an extensive use of the e-class platform (teaching material, announcements, submission of assignments and especially the possibility of on going conversation and feedback thanks to the eclass module “chat”).
In all PSIR classrooms there are projectors and access to internet which facilitate teaching performance.
The PSIR Departmental library provides abundant bibliographical support and reading facilities.
The semester grades will be accessible in a classwebplatform (https://e-secretary.uop.gr/classweb/)
The learning activities of the course will be based on the weekly lectures, the interaction of teachers and students through the eclass platform and the writing of a full length essay with presentation as well as the final examination at the end of the semester.
The course will be assessed by means of a written essay and a written examination.
Final grades of students are based on the evaluation of the submitted and presented essay (70%) and the results in the final exams (30%).
